How do I know if my dog’s arthritis pain is getting worse?

Use a standardized pain scoring tool every month or two. The Liverpool LOAD scale and the Helsinki Chronic Pain Index are both designed for owners to complete at home. Track scores over time. Watch for new behavioral changes: increased reluctance to move, new irritability, changes in appetite or sleep, more time spent isolated. Trends matter more than single scores. Bring the data to your vet so treatment can be adjusted before the dog loses significant function.
